Who is Corserine?

Two years after their refined 2022 debut Symmetry, electronic collective Corserine is breaking their silence with “You Can Rest Easy,” a glossy yet galvanizing single featuring Atlanta-based artist Arkine, out via Trailing Twelve Records. The band just today dropped yet another single, “Should Be In Bed.”

Beginning in 2019, Corserine—which shares a name with a hill in the members’ native Scotland—was conceptualized as a collaborative effort between childhood friends Caro Tyle (lyrics/production) and Gylen Boardman (synths). Alongside LA-based engineer Cam Perridge, who rounds up the band as the third member, they often bring in outside artists for vocals and other contributions, making way for a constantly rotating roster that ensures they’re always experimenting.

While Tyle and Boardman have backgrounds in classical music, the sounds coming out of Corserine releases couldn’t be farther from instruments like the piano and cello. Whether they’re shocking life into already electrifying instrumentals with a punk-esque guitar solo or dedicating songs to everything from John Hughes movies to Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano, Corserine already knows their trademarks. “You Can Rest Easy” carries over the consistency of Symmetry, spotlighting the team’s production chops while synth-pop remains a driving descriptor of their music.

Arkine, who opens up about a breakup making him question himself and the person leaving, sounds right at home with the bass crashes and spirited synths plucked right out of the 80s. Even when the song momentarily transitions into a fluttering trap beat, he matches the change of pace without faltering. The guitar solo, courtesy of Tyle, who started as a guitarist for many bands, is the cherry atop the puzzle pieces of Corserine’s making, where every instrument and vocal inflection match each other in perfect harmony.

Considering that the rollout of Symmetry consisted of uniform geometric designs, the free-flowing cover art for “You Can Rest Easy” suggests a new direction, and, more importantly, new material is on the horizon. Outside of various remixes for other artists, Corserine sticks to their guns and unites their collaborators under one distinct electronic banner. The new single is further proof that they’re continuing right where they left off, putting together gleaming textures and doses of dance music like gelatin keeping everything in place.
