Lambrini Girls “Body of Mine”

Lambrini Girls return for another rowdy confrontation with gender norms on their latest single “Body of Mine.” Arriving as one-half of a limited edition 7″ that also includes “God’s Country,” this is their first bit of new music since the drop of last year’s fiery debut EP You’re Welcome. Dripping with caustic frustration and scathing sarcasm, the track reels inward toward a personal reckoning with identity, leaping through an inferno of blistering riffs and unhinged percussion to find it. The pair captures in the process the chaotic but necessary messiness that characterizes any serious attempt to understand and navigate one’s gender.

The band said of the single: “While many of our songs are critiques of societal issues, ‘Body of Mine’ is a little more personal. This song is about trying to connect to your gender identity, feeling like you’re not fully yourself, and struggling to figure out how to truly become it.”

See Lambrini Girls at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on August 14-15th.

Ramona feat. Estevie “Desde Que Te Vi”

Estevie joins with Ramona on the new track “Desde Que Te Vi,” a sizzling and lovelorn piece that highlights the cumbia singer’s lush vocals and radiant presence on any song she appears. Against staccato rhythms and a dreamy array of instrumentals, she duets with Jesús Guerrero, yearning for a romantic reconciliation that feels agonizingly permanent. “No sé con quién ni dónde estés / Solo te pido compasión,” they sing, their voices entangled in a warm embrace. “Si tú no piensas regresar / Llévate mi amor.” This one will enchant and have you in your feels long after you finish — it’s another powerful reminder of Estevie’s ability to channel such heartache.

Joy Oladokun “Questions, Chaos & Faith”

With the release of their soul-searching new single “Questions, Chaos & Faith,” singer/songwriter Joy Oladokun has also announced plans for a U.S. summer tour. A touching tribute to a childhood best friend, its lilting and heart-wrenching lyricism grapples with everything from grief-stricken pain to religious angst. “Nothing is certain / Everything changes,” they sing, gently whispered words aglow with fervent love and the still-tender wounds of the loss. “We’re spirit and bone marching to the grave.” The song comes with a beautiful music video that finds Oladokun alone at the center of an otherworldly clearing in a forest at dusk, tears glistening in their eyes as they elicit tender healing and acceptance from their guitar.
