There’s nothing better than a band that can come together and feed off each others’ craftsmanship, delivering a smooth and cohesive sound: that’s exactly what Big Light does. Spawning some shredful tunes out of San Francisco, Big Light blends all the goodness of psychedelic, folk and even pop rock into a loud, textured bouquet of pure rock and roll. Taking inspiration from bands such as My Morning Jacket and Wilco, these guys bring forth a hearty and unique sound boasting some insane guitar solos, adorable vocals and infectious hooks. Their music just makes you feel good.

We caught up with their lead guitarist (who absolutely slays), Jeremy Korpas, for a brief SXSW Q&A:

  • How many SXSWs have you done?
This year will be our 2nd year as a band going to Austin! Last year was in support of the release of our album Animals In Bloom. This year we’re going for the BBQ.
  • What showcases are you doing this year?
We are heading down to help Sony launch their new music website Qriocity. We play their parties at the Trinity Lounge both Tues and Wed night. Plus our manager CuJo is throwing his annual day party, the Treehouse Diddly, at the Shot Bar.

Austin, TX, SXSW Trinity Lounge 03/15/11 10:45pm
Austin, TX, SXSW Trinity Lounge 03/16/11 7:45pm
Austin, TX , Cheers Shot Bar 03/16/11 3:45pm

  • What bands/performers do you want to see at SXSW?
TV On The Radio and our good friends Surprise Me Mr Davis.
  • What word of advice would you give to newbie SXSW’ers?
Drink your whiskey with lots of ice. I hate to water down the Jameson but it gets hot and you need to hydrate somehow.
  • SXSW drink of choice?
We got the Jameson covered, does anybody know where we can get the good weed?
  • Anything else you’d like to add?
    Dress to impress!
