Harlem at Spaceland – Show Review and Photos

Um, excuse me! These Texan shit-kickers are pretty bad ass! Harlem brings on that groovy garage sound sure to get bodies shaking. The boys definitely know how to deliver those thrashin’ pop melodies that take you on a sweet blast to the past. Led by dual vocalists Michael Coomers and Curtis O’Mara (the duo switch between guitar and drums, both onstage and off) the two were later joined by bassist Jose Boyer, thus completing that awesome Harlem sound. The fellas were signed to Matador back in June with a “multi-record, [...]

“Spells” by The Happy Hollows – Album Review

Listening to The Happy Hollows‘ latest album “Spells” tends to leave me in a dizzy through the first half. It’s dreamy, fuzzy indie pop straight from Silver Lake that makes me want to look through dark kaleidoscopes, wear baby doll dresses, and bust skulls just to remind you that I can. Wandering along through the album, just past the lovely “Death to Vivek Kemp” (which is totally The Hit) things get lo-fi at “Silver” and I’m totally down for the ride, until we get to “We Will Find You.” The [...]

Hot Band Alert: The Hounds Below

I’m totally diggin’ The Hounds Below ! They’re a hot new band band formed by Jason Stollsteimer, frontman of Detroit’s The Von Bondies, with Ben Collins (lead guitar), Molly Jean Schoen (bass) and Ben Luckett (drums). Their music resurrects all the delectable sounds from rock n’ roll’s glory days. From Buddy Holly to Elvis, The Hounds Below definitely spark some sweet nostalgia with their catchy melodic tunes that they smoothly fuse together with their edgy indie pop stylings. The Hounds Below will hit Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 2 for [...]

Hot vs Not: Bathroom Posers

We’ve all seen the quasi-sexy, let me take a pic of myself going pottie on the toilet (made popular during the Myspace days), but now chicks like posing in dingy bathrooms. I guess the grime gives that cool “I don’t give a fuck” effect. um, yeah.

Soko at Fonda Music Box – Show Review and Photo Gallery

Holy shit this lil girl is a feisty lil firecracker! Opening up for Nouvelle Vague a few weeks ago at the Fonda Music Box, French singer-song writer, Soko, brought smiles to our faces with her spunky folk tunes. At times those smiles dropped to open-mouths, shocked at the words coming out of this lil cutie’s mouth. With a sweet raspy voice, Soko would sing songs about heartbreak and how men had done her wrong but those vulnerable words had the bipolar ability to switch into some dirty-sex-crazed lyrics where she’d [...]
