Considering the big night we had in the city (San Francisco) the night before, I give my crew and myself a pat-on-the-back for making it through that three hour drive to Tahoe. Between a constant headache and frequent waves of nausea, El Jimador sure kicked us in the ass. But all that came to a more than happy ending once we reached the beautiful Wanderlust event grounds in Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe. I must say of all the MANY music festivals I’ve attended around the world, Wanderlust Festival takes the gold in terms of best location. The air was fresh, the weather was perfect and the majestic Sierras and blanket of stars was picture-perfect. I felt like I was in a mystical fairy tale kingdom, that is until I busted my first can of PBR in Twenty-Two Bistro. Hair of le dog bitches!
After a few beers and a light bite, we ventured into the Globetrotter Stage to kick-off our Wanderlust experience. Unfortunately we missed The Mutaytor‘s set which I heard was bad ass! They’re not quite a band, but a musical performance-art circus troupe that can rock out.
As for Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, WOW! That woman is just a lil ball of energy with the quickest foot shuffles fit to make Tina Turner jealous. Smooth and on-point, The Dap Kings can put out some funky, soulful tunes—a perfect complement to the magically delicious vocals of Ms. Jones.
