Nintendo’s Wii Music
28 10 2008
I can’t get over how many of my friends love Nintendo Wii. Even my girlfriends like to go bowling on the Wii all sozzled. I’m still not one for video games, but I do like Guitar Hero and perhaps this new shit. Nintendo has brought in “Wii Music.” And no it’s not the crazy thrashin, that we all love on Guitar Hero or Rock band, but perhaps can be. It actually allows for more creativity than that. It’s super air drums, air guitar, air violin, air flute, air whatevs. Check out the video demo here.
Wii Music brings more than 60 instruments to your living room, where you’re free to experiment with them in a variety of different ways. Unlike other music video games, Wii Music lets you put your own spin on songs. It’s all about improvisation, creativity and fun. The goal is to explore your inner musician to find creative and interesting new blends of instruments, tempos and styles.

La La Land
28 10 2008
La la land! No, not LA (Los Angeles for you middle Americaners), but Lala.com. It’s yet another music related Web site. But apparently they just started selling songs for 10 cents each, beating itunes 99 cent picks. But there is a catch of course. Lala sells “Web songs,” which you can play as often as you want but never can download to your computer. However, you can spend an additional 79 cents to 89 cents to purchase a digital rights-free version of that Web song that can be burned to a CD or transferred to an mp3 player, including an iPod.
It’s like “lease to buy.” In the end, if you like the song, you end up spending just about the same if not more that with itunes or amazon. I say fuck that shit and stick with what you know is good. I hate being overwhelmed with options especially when there really is no differnce. You can stream almost anything for free these days and then opt to buy it.
I love Last.fm

Musicians Turned Filmakers
28 10 2008So I often peep other blogs of common interest and every so often I’ll track them back if it’s of some good. I’m always intersted when it’s a musician turn anything, whether it’s actor, skater, porn star, etc. This time I found a good pick on “Ten Musician Turned Filmmakers.” They picked a cool selection of goods on there including Bob Dylan, Niel Young, Ray Manzarek, and just for laughs (at least to me), they even picked that dork Fred Durst! Check out their list here and peep one of the flicks fo show. I reccommend Rob Zombie’s “House of 1000 Corpses,” cause I’m crazy like that and have dreams of dismembering people while I lay in my pretty bed snuggling up to my Ugly Doll in a pink princess nightie.

“All Aboard” A Tribute to Johnny Cash
27 10 2008
There’s a lot of “tribute” albums out there: some good, and some bloody awful. Anchorless Records has put out a tribute album to the ultimate man in black, Johnny Cash. The album labeled “All Aboard” has a pretty kickin 16-track selection of some of Cash’s best. Stream the entire album for FREE here and check it for yourself. A few stand outs are The Bouncing Souls, Hot Water Music, Russ Rankin (Good Riddance), and The Dresden Dolls (awesome).
Although there were a few I skipped right through after a few chords and vocals, the album’s worth a buy.
Extra Goods:
There’s a BONUS TRACK!
The liner notes include quotes from each contributing artist expressing what Johnny Cash, meant to them both musically and personally.
All proceeds from this record will go to the Syrentha Savio Endowment, a non-profit providing assistance to underprivileged breast-cancer patients.
- Man In Black: The Bouncing Souls
- Country Boy: Fallen >From The Sky
- Wreck Of The Old ‘97: Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music)

Top 20 Ugliest Celebrities
16 10 2008
So I came across this blog about the “20 Ugliest Celebrities,” take away the money, plastic surgery and air brushing and I think we can ad a few more zeros to that number. With Micheal Jackson topping the list on the numero uno spot, you’ll also find a few other fuglies on there. The shit’s pretty funny and I couldn’t agree more with most, but please take my beloved Iggy off the list. His face may not be the most delicate looking, but after all the drugs, smoking and wild times he’s had, what do you expect? And check out the man’s bod! At 61(even at 21) he’s got the tightest, fittest lil bod than most 21-year-old boys don’t even have! And he plane out is legend! Made some of the best music to ever grace our planet …

Pedal to Podium
16 10 2008
I just don’t understand how some people can’t be environmentally conscious. It really annoys me when people litter, especially while driving. Or those that choose not to recycle out of sheer laziness, with laziness leading into over weight couch potatoes. Or how bout them fools that drive their cars to run errands that are less than a couple miles away? I can go on and on, but let’s hear something positive (apparently I’m REALLY good at complaining). I love discovering more and more companies focusing on the good of our planet and health. We all know that bicycling is super “hip” these days, as is going green. Good thing these trends are very good for your health and the world we live in.Check out the goods going on at Podium Distribution (Matix, DVS, Lakai):
In an attempt to encourage healthy and environmentally conscious living practices among its employee base, Podium Distribution has launched the Pedal To Podium program. Pedal To Podium encourages employees to ride bikes to work and lunch instead of driving their cars.
I think I just might pedal on on over there with some green tea and granola in my basket. Read the full press release here.

The Village Petstore and Charcoal Grill
14 10 2008
Was cruising the West Village the other day admiring all the hipsters, homosexuals, and tryhards who were trying to be one or the other when I stumbled upon this: The Village Petstore and Charcoal Grill. After a burrito gordo and several Mexican alcohol concoctions this was right up my alley. Notorious U.K. “street” artist Banksy is the man behind this exhibit. Being the master provocateur he is, the subjects are so intriguing they become down right believable but as with all of Banksy’s work there’s a deeper meaning at play here. An allegorical pet shoppe. That’s how I’m summing this up. If you’re in NYC check it. Or just watch the vids of these caged “animals.” You’ll get the gist of it from there. For photos of the exhibition and all their creatures, click here.
Check out their pet sausages video below:

Bamboo Toruture or Bamboo Skateboards?
14 10 2008
In certain regions of China, fast growing bamboo may reach growth rates of 3 feet per day. Taking grotesque advantage of the plant, the Chinese once used bamboo to skewer criminals. That’s right, they wold toruture those they deemed “criminals” with bamboo. The victim was tied across a field of bamboo plant with pointed tips. By dangling above the bamboo, they could watch the plant slowly grow into them (and through them).
On a lighter note, how about putting the good of bamboo into skateboards (not bodies). They’re totally sustainable and can pop pretty long (so I’ve heard). None the less, they gotta be pretty fuckin stong and durable if they can shoot through someone’s body! Check out Bamboo Skateboards for some more info on what they’re all about and how they ride! “God Save the Green”

Oasis “Dig Out Your Soul” Free Full Album Stream
2 10 2008Oasis is set to drop their seventh studio album on Monday, October 7 but if you want to stream the album in it’s enirety for free, you can do so on their myspace. From “Bag it up” to “Soldiers on,” check out all eleven songs from their new album “Dig out Your Soul.” I guess Noel Gallagher is jumping on the free music
bandwagon. He must feel like a dumb ass for knockin’ Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” freebie. I do recall him saying:
“I didn’t spend a year in the most expensive studio in England, with the most expensive producer in America and the most expensive graphic designer in London, to then give it away. F*** that.”
Looks like someone’s got his expensive foot in his mouth … Anyhow, the album is pretty good. They never tickled my fancy too much before, but I kinda dig this album.
Can we makes speaks?
I likes:
“I’m Outta Time” -Slow, sweet and melodic with some soothing instrumentals. I think I’d take a bubble bath to it with a nice glass of Pinot (then drop my flat iron in the tub).
“Get off Your High Horse Lady” - Sounds like the Beatles took a trip to the Midwest and had one too many bottles of Jack in some dark hokey saloon. Good shit!
“The Nature of Reality” - It gots a nice blues swagger to it. The kinds a hot chick with a nice booty can strut her goods to as she walks into a hip bar. Again, sweet instrumentals, especially the bass geeeetar.
The band’s first US tour in three years kicks off December 3, in Oakland. Yes, you heard right, OAKLAND! Kinda odd, you would think they’d have a bigger following in San Fran, but I guess the thugs are gettin’ soft these days. Lets just hope Gallagher doesn’t get another beat down like he did at the V Festival in Toronto. Check out the full US tour schedul here.

Foot Locker To Buy CCS Mail Order For $102 Million!
1 10 2008
Skateboarding sure ain’t what is used to be and I certainly don’t see it going back to that. In a way its personality has been lost and replaced with a prepped speech by some big wigs. Well, this shit happens with almost everything, just stay true to the sport and keep them small businesses, media outlets, and shops afloat, especially now in this trying time.
Footlocker is set to buy CCS at $102 million! I guess catering to a bunch of mall rats with stinky basketball shoes the past some 30 years or so, paid off. I can see it now: some ugly-ass moon shoes displayed right next to a pair of sleek Vans in the next CCS catalog. Or better yet, how about a tacky TapOut shirt right next to a pair of sweet Altamont jeans, that will surely bring the “bros” and skaters together. Read the press release below for more info:
Foot Locker Inc. (FL) will buy direct-to-consumers business CCS from Delia’s Corp. (DLIA) for $102 million as the specialty athletic retailer looks to expand its offerings in the skateboarding apparel category.
Shares of Delia’s, a teen-apparel retailer, jumped 16% to $2.90 premarket while Foot Locker was inactive at $16.99. Delia’s stock has lost nearly half its value in the past year.
CCS sells skateboard footwear, apparel and accessories through catalogs and the Internet. CCS revenue is expected to surpass $80 million in 2009 and Foot Locker said expanding its offerings in the skateboarding area would help broaden its appeal to teenaged males, CCS’ target customers.
The deal is expected to close within the next 60 days. And in connection with the sale, teen apparel retailer Delia’s agreed to acquire intellectual property used at CCS from Alloy Inc. (ALOY) for $9 million. Foot Locker will ultimately get that property.
Foot Locker expects the purchase to boost earnings the first year after closing, and the company said the deal highlights its “strong financial position.”
Foot Locker swung to a profit in its most recent reporting quarter as smaller- than-expected markdowns helped the company expand its gross margin.

Subliminal Projects Presents: Park Life
1 10 2008You can never go wrong in attending an art show presented by Subliminal Projects. Always astounding works, always good times. Check out the goods on Park Life below and see for yourself what it’s all about.
Subliminal Projects is proud to present the first installment of their new Studio Number One curatorial program, Park Life. Amidst a neighborhood defined by fluid and fixed identities, the series of exhibitions focuses on the creative crossroads of art, design, popular culture, and technology. With works from an expansive network of artists, Park Life attempts to showcase the sense of community that art has the power to create. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 4 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The community theme of Park Life is very much a representation of the biography of Studio Number One, Subliminal Projects Gallery, and Obey Giant Art. With the recent move from Koreatown to Echo Park in early 2008, the underground art trifecta knows what it’s like to be the “new kids on the block” and respects the continuous process of adapting to the new environment they now call home. Throughout this process of discovery, the gallery has made it a priority to uncover new interests with old friends and to build a solid relationship with local vendors, neighbors and residents.
In an effort to jumpstart this dialogue of the future, Park Life poses the question, “What defines a community?” The works in this show celebrate the diverse creative collective of friends, relatives, and fellow creators Subliminal Projects has met along their journey. Subliminal Projects invited these “family members” to submit one to three pieces of artwork no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet, revealing the gallery’s open mind and open arms to those attempting to beautify the chaos of the world while simultaneously stimulating thoughts and ideas.
Naturally, the response to Subliminal Project’s invitation has been overwhelming, attracting an impressive group of artistic contributors. Spread Your Legs Wide For Sex Week on VBS
1 10 2008
If you don’t know what VBS TV is, or do but never check out this awesome site, you’re pretty much a square bear. One of my favorite Web sites fo show! No rules, no corpos, no posers — just real raw reporting sure to make your granny rise from her grave.
It’s the second annual Sex Week at VBS! In this go-round, the Vice Guide to Sex travels to Tokyo to meet Daikichi Amano, the world’s leading purveyor of eel and frog pornography. He’s pretty much the Orson Welles of dildo-drilling fish roe into a girl’s vagina. Later in the week they’ll have a a special edition of Shot By Kern in which Richard turns the lens on his wife Martynka, and plenty of other horny business like Thai ladyboys and New York leathermen and Gino Iannucci.
The shit’s always wild and intersting! So go there now!
