The Godmother of punk, Patti Smith has come a long way from lurking in the doorways at the infamous Max’s Kansas City, with her then sidekick Sam Shepard back when punk mattered. Patti Smith is absolutely amazing: a poet, a singer, a songrwriter, a revolutionary, she can even throw down flows with some of the best beat poets. I can go on and on at how great she is, or how kick ass her first album “Horses” was, or even how sick her free show last summer on the Santa Monica pier was, but I won’t . I will say you need to read this article on her new documentary “Patti Smith: Dream of Life,” an impressionistic portrait of this iconic woman that has been in the makes for some 11 years.
