Guns N Roses Vs. LA Blogger

29 08 2008

Bettah watch yo back bloggers with what you put up on those very popular blogs of yours. God knows I get a bunch of shit from losers with no taste in music for putting down their favorite bands. For some reason my bashing on the Kotton Mouth Kings, still gets so many hits. I guess they have a big following (like 100 people) out in the midwest and the Aussie outback from what my statistics tell me. Hobunk trailor park trash resides everywhere, even in Aus. Well enough about that. Check out this latest shit on Guns N’ Roses and the blogger who leaked their new music! Thanks Scott for your witty contribution.

–Sandy

"Where is Slash when I need him?"

First let me say I am a huge Guns and Roses fan! Appetite For Destruction is one of the Greatest Rock albums of the last 20 Years.
However this FUCKTARD AXL ROSE is just well destroying the name!

I mean seriously what has it been 14 years since the album was supposed to come out? Now the FBI arrest Kevin for posting it on his site? Come on!

AXL no one cares anymore, I have respect for what you did but move on! Seriously without the rest of the crew its really not G’N'R it is some fat dude with Braids that throws a fit every-time he doesn’t get his way!

So go back to eating Big Mac’s and braiding your hair and just let the fans have the music to see if its even worthy of your stupid fucking attitude! Read more here.

ok bye bye

The highly awaited and fanfuckintastic etnies Goofy Vs Regular is a commin’. Sunset Junction 2008 Photos

27 08 2008

Be aware, when you go to Sunset Junction, you’re going to a crazy carnival of fun! No joke … people watching galore. A little to many annoying “hipsters” for me but I sure did have a great time, even though I was deathly tired and felt like a zombie. Good music, good food, good people, good rides and good Keys, The Black Keys that is (not surprised right? ha). While battling a hangover derived from the So Co Music Experience the night before, I somehow managed to spill and entire can of Tecate in my purse. Backstage ran out of beer, so I ran to the bar across the way, bought a can and chucked it in my purse thinking it was a “closed” can. Nope! Buh-bye ipod. Sandy needs a new ipod! But don’t fear, I still got the sickest music collection backed up on the itunes and such.

Sweet memories and the sweetest view. Check out all the exciting photos here!

THE BLACK KEYS

Death Bowl To Downtown Hits LA

27 08 2008

After two years looking through film, video, magazine, and photo archives, the Death Bowl to Downtown was finally created. It was already featured in its home of New York and now it’s ready to go on tour. Check out the evolution of skateboarding in the NYC in this awesome documentary directed by Coan Nichols and Rick Charnoski, narrated by the sexy Chloe Sevigny. Get on it!

Southern Comfort Music Experience San Diego Photos

26 08 2008

The So Co Music Experience in SD was super cool this year, especially since The Black Keys played! I wish we could have gotten there earlier,as I would have loved to have seen Grand Old Party, Kinky and Lady Dottie and The Diamonds, but it was a hell of a busy weekend. Needless to say, we partied it up in the VIP area with a shit load of free drinks, followed by some backstage fun (and more drinks). Thanks So Co for the MASSIVE hang-over!

The Black Keys put on a stellar performance as always! These guys are just the fuckin shit! Dan is a legend in the making and Pat kills it on the drums, crazy octopus man! Click here for some fun photos! And check out their closing song “I got mine” live, in all it’s entirety below. Absolutely sick!

Oh yeah, as for Common I was thoroughly disappointed. I’ve always been a fan, especially in his “Like Water for Chocolate Days” and “Electric Circus,” but what I saw Saturday night certainly was not the Common I remember. Homeboy played a bunch of mash ups of other people’s music and acted like a typical rapper backstage having his HOT assistant or what have you, pat all the sweat off his body and physically change his shirt for him as though he were a helpless two-year old. I certainly didn’t see The Black Keys pull that shit.

Check back tomorrow for some even better pics from Sunset Junction!

Of all the pathetic rap music that infiltrates are airways today, this tight little piece explains it all. And if that ain’t the troof! Enough said …

Thanks to Kristang for sending.

The Black Diamond Heavies Vs The Black Keys

21 08 2008

I do love The Black Keys (as if anyone who reads this blog religiously couldn’t tell) but I do love the raw gritty blues of The Black Diamond Heavies. Although Dan Auerbach helped produce these guys, many are saying they surpass the Keys. Hmmm … I came by this blog and the writer wrote: “The Black Diamond Heavies are a favorite around here at MUD. They make the BLACK KEYS sounds like ABBA on a milk hangover.” I could not help but fuckin laugh at that comment, I think Dan would even find that analogy quite witty and full of comedy. Good on you BDH.

Raw, greasy, and full of gasoline

Vs.

Abba on a milk hangover

Keith Richard is Immortal

21 08 2008

Is Keith Richards really a cat with 9 lives? Cause shit, that man should have been dead a looooong time ago. Thank the rock n’ roll gods above for not taking him yet because he is one bad ass rocker! He was knocked out by electric shock onstage in 1965; wrecked his Nazi staff car in 1969; fell asleep in midsentence during a television interview in 1974; suffered broken ribs when books dropped off his home library shelves in 1998; fell out of a coconut tree in Fiji in 2006; and possibly snorted his dad’s ashes the next year. Not to mention all the mass sex, drugs and alcohol: the man is a fuckin legend! Well the old fogie mag (not really, but really) AARP highlights “50 Reasons to Love Being 50″ and good ole Keith makes it to #14! I guess I better pick up a copy of the September/October issue at my Mom’s house.

Metallica Loves Napster

21 08 2008

Oh how the tables have turned … remember the whole Napter/Metallica drama way back when pirating music was cool? Well, now Metallica finds themselves hungry for Internet love and has put their entire catalog online with their past nemesis. How ironic, I guess times are tough. Read more here.

MC Hammer is 2 Legit 2 Quit!

21 08 2008

It’s cool for bands like The Stooges and The New York Dolls to reform and make  a come-back because they were actually good and of a high notoriety, but for one hit wonders like MC Hammer … WTF? Yes, we all enjoyed that song “Can’t Touch This” or making those stupid hand gestures to “To Legit to Quit,” sadly now it’s nothing more than a mere karaoke song (if that). And how bout them “hammer pants?’” Every now and then, I’ll see some middle aged white male with a beer belly and some missing teeth, sporin’ a pair of those god forsaken pants, always with the ass region faded and worn down. MC Hammer is set to release a new album this fall titled “Dancejamthemusic,” his tenth album and first new release since 2006. Tenth album! I didn’t even know he got past one, I guess that explains how good the other mysterious 9 were.

This is the Voice of Enigma

21 08 2008

Just when you think the Catholic church can’t get any more creepy, with priests having playtime with alter boys, Enigma comes back with a brand new album. Mixing in some electronic beats over some sonic landscapes, fused with the chilling chants of a Gregorian kind, I don’t know if they can ever top their sick debut album from 1990, “MCMXC a.D,” but I sure would like to hear it. Maybe they can sample in some alter boy confessions of pedifile priests. Well the puzzle is answered on September 19, when ENIGMA master mind Michael Cretu opens a new chapter of his creative universe with his seventh album, “Seven Lives Many Faces” - 12 songs that surpass the boundaries of the known sound.

Track List:

Disk 1

  1. Encounters
  2. Seven Lives
  3. Touchness
  4. The Same Parents
  5. Fata Morgana
  6. Hell’s Heaven
  7. La Puerta Del Cielo
  8. Distorted Love
  9. Je T’aime Till My Dying Day
  10. Déjà Vu
  11. Between Generations
  12. The Language Of Sound

Disk 2

  1. Superficial
  2. We Are Nature
  3. Downtown Silence
  4. Sunrise
  5. The Language Of Sound (Slow Edit)

The Rolling Stones Save Lives

21 08 2008

Whoa! Talk about a die hard  fan, only this dude was luck to be alive. Apparently The Roling Stones’ hit song “Satisfaction” woke a man up from his coma. No joke, check it out here! Sam Carter, a British man who was in a coma  had a 30 percent chance to live after contracting severe anemia but awoke when his favorite Stones track, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” was blasted into his ears. Ironically, the single was the first the retired baker bought when he was a teenager in 1965. How fuckin rad is that! To life and the Stones!

Check out this sick old skool performance of “Satisfaction.”

ZZ Top and The Black Keys Collabo

20 08 2008

It’s funny how things fall into place in a timely manner. I love ZZ Top, remember them from my days as a young little girl, yearning to wear the cute heels and ruffly socks in their “Legs” video.  In fact, I believe I made a reference to that memory a while back under the Hot Vs Not tab (White Socks), and I also added the ZZ Top “Legs” video about a month ago under the “Weekly Music Vid” side bar. I guess my crazy intuition was telling me that ZZ was about to do something hot, real hot.

It’s a ways a way but ZZ Top are gearing up for a brand new album, with the legendary Rick Rubin producing it. Apparently, Rubin wants to hook ZZ Top up with The Black Keys, a very wanted duo lately. There are some plans for some writing and possibly some recording. It will be the bearded collaboration of the century. Also, check out ZZ Top’s expanded 25th anniversary “Eliminator” Collectors edition dropping August 25.

Starbucks is the new Fat!

20 08 2008

With superfoods like Acai and the “pay for the packaging, over-priced” Monavie, it seems like coffee shops have become the new fast food stops of America. So I’m chilling in my car this morning sippin on some yummy Tazo Green Tea Ginger (not a fan of coffee, that shit’s like a laxative) and I came to realize, Starbucks is the new fat! With in a mere 10 minutes I saw about 5 woman walk by my car with some mass calorie filled concoctions from the coffee corpo Starbucks. Almost all these drinks were frothed up with a mountain of whip cream and chocolate syrup: and 4 out of the 5 woman were of the super chunky persuasion. There they were waddling out, thinking “oh it’s coffee, must be low in calorie, and I’ll probably shit ieverything out in 20 minutes.” NOT the case with those massive frappachinos they were guzzling down, hence the laxative factor is quickly dismissed. These sorry wildabeasts, what’s next to contribute to their disease? Starbucks already has a drive through (like fast food) perhaps a “would you like to supergrande it?”

And the funniest shit of all, there was this rather rotund chick who was jiggling her way out of Starbucks and she was wearing a shirt that read: “I love skaters.”

Fujiya & Miyagi Bring you “Lighbulbs”

19 08 2008

Smooth, collective and on-point. Fujiya and Miyagi are back with a new album and tour. These guys are bad ass and I just can’t help but continue to talk about them as though I were paid to. As the band, gets bigger (now with 4 members) so does their music. Their upcoming sophmore album “Lighbulbs” is due out September 16, and their gnarly tour schedule goes into effect August 31. Although it will be hard to top their awesome track “Collarbone,” (also featured in SKATE IT), the new tracks sound delightfully cool. Take a listen for yourself.

SK8OLOGY

19 08 2008

Besides their hip publication, ISM Magazine always coming out with some cool events. Check out this exhibit coming up Saturday, August 23in Long Beach, Cali. For their next community project ISM presents “SK8OLOGY,” an exhibition that combines skateboard counter culture with the world of fine art. Showcasing over 150 creative deck canvases from some of the most poignant and significant active artists and professional skaters, bring your wallet and make a purchase! Art is always nice to look at, but it’s even more eye friendly in your own home. The show will then travel to San Diego September 4-6 for the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) Trade Show and off to Florida September 12-14 for the Surf Expo. Are those two even tradeshows anymore, or just industry gatherings where we consume copious amounts of alcoholic beverages? Regardless, make sure you check it out.

19 08 2008

The bird man has begun a pledge drive for the skatepark under the Manhattan Bridge. Currently a mere open space with a few ramps and rails scattered about, there’s high hopes for this sweet location. Hundreds of skaters from all over the Tri-Borough area, New Jersey, and elsewhere come to the park every week. Perfectly placed in the heart of New York’s skate district, accessible to public transportation, and sittin cool under the big bridge above, this spot can transform into something amazing. This Saturday, skateboarders from around the world will converge under the Brooklyn Bridge for the 4th annual Back to the Banks Contest.

“The Olivetti Chronicles: Notes On Life, Music And Facial Hair”

15 08 2008

When I think of musical tastemakers, trendsetters or any person with a keen ear for quality music, I instantly envision a goofy lookin’ Rodney Bingenheimer. With dorky bangs and an almost a dwarf status, that man is a legend: the “Mayor of the Sunset Strip.” In the same turn, you got the famed British disc jockey and music journalist, John Peel. Now if you don’t know who he is, you probably have boring taste in music or just no standing knowledge. Though he is no longer around to instill your feening minds with some fresh picks, his new book, “The Olivetti Chronicles: Notes On Life, Music And Facial Hair” is due out this coming October 23. A follow up to his posthumous memoirs, “Margrave Of The Marshes,” this new read has articles personally selected by Peel’s wife Sheila, and feature musings on Tubular Bells, Eurovision, shaving and the loss of virginity. Pick either book up, and enlighten yourself.

Sunset Junction 2008

14 08 2008

Awe yeeeah, the hip LA communities of Silver Lake, Los Feliz and Echo Park (know as the Sunset Junction) are at it again with the 28th annual Sunset Junction street festival. If you haven’t been to this awesome musical event that only gets better each year, I highly recommend it! It’s unfortunate the legendary Isaac Hayes recently passed away, as he was the headlining talent for this event. But fear not, I’m sure there will be mad love for the man by the list of amazing performers both local and big: The Black Keys, The Cold War Kids, Broken Social Scene, CHK CHK CHK, Kinky, and more! There’s even a skate park and valet bicycle parking for all you hipster cyclists. So get on it August 23 and 24.

Lahaina Skatepark is a Commin’

14 08 2008

Shaka bra! Looks like the beautiful county of Lahaina, Hawaii is fixin’ to get a new skatepark up in the mix. Adjacent to the Lahaina Aquatic Center in West Maui, the 15,000-square-foot skate is slated for shredding next summer. The skatepark will feature two bowls side by side with a connector in the middle and a long street course. It will sit on a 22,000-square-foot parcel on the Kaanapali side of the pool. Grindline has been designing the park and it’s looking good. Read more here.

Joss Stone Gets Obamafied

14 08 2008

Damn, it seems like every celebrity is all Obama! Win the likes of popular public figures and you win the likes of the masses. I guess you can say Obama is the hottest new trend, and that rests okay with me. The sultry British songstress, Joss Stone, who can belt out the blues like a sweaty old man in the South, is currently working on a campaign song for Barack Obama. Apparently he’s a big fan of hers (I wonder if she was part of his ipod playlist in that Rolling Stone feature?) and she’s a huge supporter of him. Viva la Revolucion! Read more here.

Neck Face’s Cannibal Carnival

13 08 2008

Can’t get enough of the infamous and ambiguous Neck Face? Well cruise on over to his third solo show, Cannibal Carnival at the New Image Art Gallery in Los Angeles. It’s all about all about taking things out of context, chaos, watercolors, and good things gone bad at this crazy exhibit. At the opening, friends of the Neck Face and professional skaters, Sammy Baca and Lizard King will be skating in a caged off mini-ramp filled with objects they encounter every day: knives, spray paint, and booze of course. Sound like a fun infused hell! Don’t be scerd, check it out!

Check out The Yolks!

13 08 2008

It’s funny how musical genres die and get revived. First it was 70’s style punk, then electro rock(new wave), to now what seems to be a revival of psychedelic blues and late 60’s garage. I always love the new spin these awe inspired bands of today put on the past greats: the shit sounds good. Well here’s another kick ass garage punk band to shake those hipst to. Hailing from Chi town The Yolks are a groovy bunch. They definitely got  some stylin’ smooth vocals and body moving instrumentals, thus “Puttin’ the soul back in rock n’ roll” (as they say). Give these boys a listen you won’t be disappointed.

Klause Flouride Leaves Dead Kennedys

13 08 2008

Not like it was ever the same with out Jello, but bassist Klaus Flouride of the legendary Bay Area-based punk band, the Dead Kennedys (DK), has officially left this iconic outfit after more than thirty years. From his days rocking the infamous Mabuhay Gardens, the Californian equivalent to CBGB’s, to playing small non-corporate tours with the reformed DK–Flouride has thrown the towel in. Needless to say he is not retiring from music, but unfortunately a reoccurring medical condition called Angioedema has put a strain on his musical career. However, Flouride will continue to perform regionally with bands like The American Professionals, The Go Going Gone Girls Band and Stardust Cowboy.

08/23 @ The Hemlock Tavern, San Francisco, CA (as part of The Go Going Gone Girls)
08/29 @ The Stork Club, Oakland, CA (as part of The American Professionals)
10/16 @ The Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco, CA (as part of The Go Going Gone Girls w/ Laika and the Cosmonauts farewell tour)

Rolling Stone Magazine on a Diet

12 08 2008

Damn this recession bull shit is hurting everyone, even big time mags such as Rolling Stone. This popular music magazine has been around for quite sometime since the late 60’s and has featured some iconic bands on their large covers. From Zeppelin to Bowie, and even a bunch of lamers such as Brittany Spears and that reality show “The Hills” have graced the front window. They cater to such a wide variety of public figures you would think they’d be alright. Nonetheless, they are just going down a size on the covs. Next time you pick up a copy at the newstand, don’t be surprised it its shrunk in size. I guess size really doesn’t matter.  Read more here.

This above cover reminds me of this lil magazine.

Manaj and “Daddy’s Shadow”

12 08 2008

Damn girl, don’t mess with the doctor, especially when he’s Dr. Dre. All I have to say is that Dr. Dre is bad ass! Nothing like “The Chronic” back in ‘92, when hip hop was bangin’ and gangsta rap was the shizzle. Mad respect to this man for being such a legit rapper, producer and more, yet never falling into the glitz and glamour, or bull shit hype like most rappers. Like all kids of great musicians, they want to easily weazel their way into the music industry.

Apparently Dre’s daughter Manaj is releasing a documentary of her attempts to break into the music industry. (Um wait a minute, shouldn’t you be a iconic musician with a proven track record to put out a proper documentary about your musical life?) Guess she’ll just be mooching publicity off her Father’s infamous career, since she doesn’t have anything reputable to show for. To Dre’s dismay he ain’t to stoked about her putting the family on blast. Read more here.

Hmm, another wannabe rapper, rappin about money, bling and smoking weed. Why am I not surprised …

Shame on Heineken

12 08 2008

Why do the rich always steal from the poor? The internet is a great way to display your talents whether they are writing, photography, porn (ha), etc. But it also leaves you way more susceptible to people stealing your material. Shit, I’ve even had people rip my copy verbatim with out a mere shout out or trackback. I’m all for the fair use rule, but not full on stealing people’s work. And Heineken has been a naughty dutch boy, stealing the photos from photographers on flickr. There are some talented ass photographers on there, but give credit where credit is due (especially when you got heavy pockets).

“A website run by brewing giant Heineken was leeching hundreds, if not thousands of copyright photos through the flickr API and posting them to promote the Oxegen music festival in Ireland.”

Read more here.

“Fuck Lil Wayne”

11 08 2008

Seems like this crap rapper Lil Wayne just keeps on stepping on all the toes of some kick ass rock n’ rollers. First the whole Rolling Stones fiasco and now fuckin’ up The Black Keys’s set at the Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore. Coming on 40 minutes late, Lil Whack shortend The Black Keys’ performance.

Good on front man Dan Auerbach for calling Lil What out: According to bthesite.com, “Before their last song, the lead singer said to the crowd, “Two more songs. You can thank Lil’ Wayne for that.” And he had three more words for the rapper before leaving the stage: “F— Lil’ Wayne.”

New Transworld Skateboarding Web site

11 08 2008

Whoa! I was checking out skateboarding.com today and noticed they had totally revamped their whole site. Yet another skateboarding magazine that has restructured their site, although TWS has always been on it with their web content and what not. Looks more simple, like a blog! Then again blogs are the all the hype now right? Check out the new site it’s way more user friendly, but a lil slow.

Funny shit, that Bobby Worrest feature. The blond on the left is my buddy’s ex, now a mega pro ho! Skaters, dirt bikers, whatevs she be on it.

Isaac Hayes RIP

11 08 2008

So my Father calls me up this morning and informs me that the legendary Isaac Hayes has entered the gates of rock n’ soul heaven. My Father being the music lover that he is, a veteran of Woodstock, tells me how bummed he is this great musician has passed on at 65: “He was one of the kindest men with his music in that time.” To a man whose beautiful music made many panties drop, and was the ultimate “chef” on South Park, rest in peace.  Read more here.

SLAP Goes Digi

11 08 2008

In a time where computers, ipods and cell phones pretty much rule the world, it’s no surprise that more and more magazines are going digital. Not to mention going “green” is apparently the hip thing now. Kabala, Scientology, now it’s go green! With music magazines such as SPIN and the FADER already gone digital and many skateboard publications now paying more attention to their Web sites, the infamous SLAP magazine has gone digi. No more paper!

SLAP has decided to step up and be the first in skateboarding to make a clean break with the old, and with that sentiment and excitement we announce SLAP will now channel its efforts and creativity 100%
into slapmagazine.com … “

“Patti Smith: Dream of Life”

7 08 2008

The Godmother of punk, Patti Smith has come a long way from lurking in the doorways at the infamous Max’s Kansas City, with her then sidekick Sam Shepard back when punk mattered. Patti Smith is absolutely amazing: a poet, a singer, a songrwriter, a revolutionary, she can even throw down flows with some of the best beat poets. I can go on and on at how great she is, or how kick ass her first album “Horses” was, or even how sick her free show last summer on the Santa Monica pier was, but I won’t . I will say you need to read this article on her new documentary “Patti Smith: Dream of Life,” an impressionistic portrait of this iconic woman that has been in the makes for some 11 years. It will be coming to a theatre near you. Check the dates here.

EA’s SKATE 2 has Evolved

7 08 2008

For all you thrashers and nerdy gamers, Electronic Arts and Black Box unveiled SKATE 2 last Thursday in San Francisco and apparently it’s fuckin surreal. Its evolved in many ways, such as now you can actually get off your board and navigate through San Vanelona in a crazy way. Climb those stairs and grind that rail! Check out some cool screen shots and  more here.

Check out the sweet teaser:
