Black Diamond Heavies

The Black Diamond Heavies just absolutely rock: straight up! Yet another blues inspired duo, coming from Alive Natural Sound Records, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite indie labels. I covered another band of theirs the Buffalo Killers, back in April, who also rip it up. Conveniently, they both have The Black Keys’ epicly talented, Dan Auerbach, sprinkling some of that “magic potion” over them. Thus creating an electrifying sound.

They have the raw punk of the New York Dolls fused with the gritty sandpaper blues of Tom Waits. Feeling like you’re in a muggy blues joint, the fuzzy guitar chords and vibrant drum rolls induce sudden gyrations through out your body. Needless to say, frontman John Wesley Myers can easily transcend into a sweet, lonesome ballad with “Bidding my time,” similar to the sound of Louis Armstrong. Do yourself a favor and check them out while they’re on tour.
