Because she so eccentrically badass and everyone should experience an ! I was turned onto M.I.A. back in 05 when I spent a few months in Brazil. M.I.A and Diplo brought in some pretty sweet Rio Baile Funk. And I being the crazy girl that I am, I actually went to a full on “funk” party in Rio de Janeiro and it was off the chain crazy! Something totally foreign, fun and at the same time frightening. These parties are held in favelas. If you don’t know what a favela is check out the indie flick, City of God, shit’s crazy and you don’t ever want to stumble inside one of these slums uninvited.
M.I.A. has received mad hype with the release of Kala, more specifically the song “Paper Planes.” If you’re new to her music, check out her tracks off Arular as well.
